Get ready to deliver your first study-skills talk.
Welcome to the next step. Lanterna School Presenters visit IB schools — for free — to deliver short, energising study-skills talks to IB and pre-IB students. The five short videos below walk you through how the talk runs, what makes a great presenter, and the small details that make a big difference on the day. When you’re done, complete the quiz at the bottom.
1. School Presentations, Purpose and Best Practices 🎯
In this first Loom, I talk about the general purposes of school presentations at Lanterna, why we do them, and how to be a good presenter. I explain that these presentations are Lantrena's brand commitment to supporting IB schools and students worldwide, and a presenter's primary role is to help students with advice based on their own IB success. They also encourage schools to use our free resources and sign up for tutoring, building a relationship with Lanterna. The booking is handled by a manager email invite, a presenter then coordinates by email, shows up on time, delivers, and sends a thank you email. Presenters to make a good impression and deliver engaging, true advice
2. How to Introduce Your IB Presentation
In this Loom, I walk you through what a connection email looks like, how you should respond with your intro email, and what timing or arrival details to share with the school a few days before. I then outline my approach for the first part of the presentation, where I introduce myself, use a quick agenda, and get students engaged early with an interactive moment. I explain the IB briefly, and I use a SpongeBob running theme as a metaphor for how students can become saturated with information. I also highlight that I am sharing free Lanturna resources and tutoring support.3. IB Study Tips, Interactive Methods That Work 🙂
In the study tips section, I keep students engaged by asking questions like whether they know the 80 20 rule, and I bring in my SpongeBob running joke to keep it feel like a graduate, not a teacher. I move into specific tips I genuinely used, like rotating resources, watching YouTube, doing worksheets, taking detailed drawn notes, and using Quizlet. I connect strategies to the IB syllabus and show how to use it on exam style multiple choice, plus discuss note taking, learning approaches, and past papers. I also emphasize free IB resources and suggest you be honest and specific with your own methods. I did not request action, but I encourage you to apply a variety of tips.
4. IB Prep Tips with Real Life Balance 😀
In this Loom I outline how I structure a presentation to help students do well on the IB while still having a real life. I include study tips, then a time management section that uses a quantifiable example, like 86,400 seconds in a 24 hour period, to make them think of time as money. I link the advice to my own story, and add practical exam tips like command terms, marks, and assessment criteria. At the end I give takeaways and I ask you to be ready to answer a prompt about your three takeaways, since I randomly pick three students.
5. Pitch and Lead Generation 🙂
In this last part of my presentation, I introduce Lentourna’s free study resource library and explain how to use it as a study tool, plus the option of tutoring. When you scan the QR code, you fill in your graduation year, name, and email, then you get access to resources across subjects like Maths, English, and ESS, and also learning techniques. Lantourna was founded 20 years ago, with 15,000 students tutored by 500 active tutors and an average grade increase of 1.5. I also tell you about Lentourna Elite tutoring and share testimonials. Action requested, please scan the QR code, and there is a 10 percent discount and 3 hours of free tutoring if you follow up.
